Anyone of any age can race BMX! That’s what’s so great about our sport. Boys, girls mums, dads, nanas and grandads are all able to hop on a bike and race. It’s a whole lot of fun!!
New riders are welcome to come along and have a go, your first three nights riding are free! After that it is only $3 per night for members or $5 for non-members.
BMX is classed as an extreme sport and as such safety gear must be worn. You need long pants, a long sleeved top, sports shoes, gloves and a full faced helmet to race.
Equipment Hire:
Bikes- Club bikes can be hired for $10 per night, we have a range of sizes available. Bikes are limited so first in first served.
Safety:
Equipment- Full Faced Helmets and/or gloves can be hired for only $5 each!
At New Plymouth BMX Club nights the emphasis is on enjoyment. Each night, each rider will have 5 races (motos). The usual format is 4 races followed by a short tea break, then 'Final' moto.
We do the best we can to group riders according to their abilities so that they are racing riders of similar speed. With new riders this may take some time to get right as they improve very quickly! As it is difficult to identify new riders in all their safety gear so a number plate made from a white ice-cream lid helps us to put a name to the face.
When?
Club nights are held every Sunday at the Shark Tank at Hickford Park, Bell Block. Sign on starts at 10:15am - 10:45 and racing starts at 11am sharp, please be on time, otherwise you may be disappointed if you miss racing.
Volunteers:
The New Plymouth BMX Club is successful because of the hard work of a lot of volunteers. Once your child has become a member of the club, please look for ways that you can become involved. With everyone helping out the club will only get stronger.
